doublebass Born on 12.09.1973 in Brussels, he began playing bass guitar at the age of 17 in a rock band playing cover of The Kinks, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, The Who, etc. ). Then he played and recorded with other bands.
From 1991 to 1995, Benoit studied literature at the University Faculties of Saint-Louis and the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve. Between age of 20 and 23, he studied classical bass and then spent a year at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp to study the basics of harmony and improvisation on electric bass. He then participated in a cover band of Cuban standards and continued along the learning of classical technique on bass.
In 1998, he temporarily abandoned music for a one-year stay in Iran as a student of Persian and teacher of French.
In 2004, after three years of full-time job and an experience at the “Ateliers-chansons”, he resumed the study of bass and piano and rediscovered the joy of making music, particularly song writing. He joined a band called “Room Service”, where he contributed with his own compositions and singing (2005-2007). Since then, his musical work is primarily focused on the practice of jazz and his interests range from jazz combos to French pop rock and french songs, via collaborations with some classical music ensembles.
