Nicolas Kummert saxes ténor & soprano, compositions - Born March 12, 1979 in namur (Belgium). - Studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Department of Jazz & Commercial Music, with saxophonists Jeroen VAN HERZEELE and John RUOCCO. - Studied for a period of six months (1999 ‹ 2000) at the Music Conservatory of Köln, Germany, as an exchange student. - Apart from John RUOCCO and Jeroen VAN HERZEELE, another most influential teacher is Fabrizio CASSOL, who is known for his great achievments with the band AKA MOON. - Won the Prize for Best Soloist at the first "Tournoi de Jazz" at Maison du Jazz, Eben-Emael in 1998. - Won 1st Prize at the International Jazz Contest 1999 of Hoeilaart, Belgium, with the Alexi TUOMARILA Quartet.
PERFORMANCES: During his young career, he already had the opportunity to play with Belgian top musicians, like: Nicolas THYS (bass), Pierre VAN DORMAEL (gt), Bo VAN DER WERF (bar. sax) and Otti VAN DER WERF (el. b.).
BANDS: - Alexi TUOMARILA Quartet. With the Alexi Tuomarila Quartet, he has performed on different jazzfestivals, such as: Hoboken Jazz Festival, Jazz à Liège, April Jazz (Espoo-Finland), Brussels Jazz Marathon (Grand Place), Festival van Vlaanderen (Mechelen), Salon de la Musique (Paris-France). - Marco LOCURCIO Group. - Alchemie. - Namur Sax Quartet Performance at Montréal Jazz Festival (July 2000)
RECORDINGS: * With guitarist Pierre VAN DORMAEL, recorded the album Vivaces (Igloo Igl 155) * The band ALCHIMIE which he co-leads with guitarist Philippe REUL, releases its first album in 2001 : "Alchimie" on the IGLOO label. (Igl 153)
* With the Alexi TUOMARILA Quartet, he recorded the album Voices of Pohjola (Igloo IGL158), released in April 2001 and "02 released in April 2003 (Warner Bros). * With the JAMBANGLE, he recorded the album Trinity Song, released in May 2002. With the band "Quatre", the album "4"on the label Mogno, released in March 2003.
In November 2003, during the Belgian Django d'Or ceremony, Nicolas KUMMERT received the Young Talent Award. |
