Nicolas Thys
Acoustic & electric bass, guitar, keyboard, vocals.
Né en Belgique le 27 août 1968 et basé à
New York, Nicolas a étudié la basse et la contrebasse
au Conservatoire de Hilversum aux Pays-Bas, d’où il
est sorti gradué “cum laude” en ‘93. Il
a aussi suivi des cours privés avec Marc Johnson, Marc Helias
et Dave Holland.

Nick Thys played in more than 40 countries, he played at Whatis
Jazz Festival (NYC), Montreal Jazz Festival, Yokohama Jazz Festival,
Montreux Jazz Festival, toured Japan with Kenny Werner/Toots Thielemans.
Has a player he received several awards in Belgium: with the GVA
Quintet 1991, Jazz Rally. 1992, Prix de la Communauté Française
in Liège. With his trio, Jazz Hoeilaart Prize 1993. With
'Five Up High' Leverkusen 1st Prize 1994. '98 Belgian critics (french
speaking) poll: best Belgian acoustic bass player.'98 Alice's 5
Moons nominated for the 2AMV Awards. 2001 Django d'Or selection.
He worked for 3 month in New York with styllist/crooner Isaac Mizrahi.
In 94, a recording of his trio was played on 124 radio stations
in the US and in Canada. Took part in different projects in New
York with Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Steve Cardenas, Bill Mc Henry,
Jeff Williams. Introducing Alice's 5 Moons released in '97, its
first CD. His Latest, todate, is his participation in Nice Guys
(tours in USA, Japan, Belgium, Germany) with : Bill Mc Henry (sax),
Taka Nakamura (keys, sampler, trumpet), Falk Willis (drums). Current
tour projects include Toots Thielemans, Walter Lang, Bill Carrothers,
Chris Defoort. Currently Recording Alice's 5 Moons 2 in New York,
and recording with a.o. : Ronny Drayton (ex DeFunkt Guitar), Gintas
(Drums ex Bilal), DD Gutman (Keybord, Bebel Gilberto), Zeke ZimA
(Guitar ex Marcy Playground).
