Solange Labbé chant, composition The belgian composer Solange Labbé was born in Brussels. After graduating in communication studies , she turned to music. She studied singing with important professors in Italy, Holland and France, as a result of which she familiarized herself with the classical repertoire as well as ancient and contemporary music and improvisation.
In 1993, under the impulsion of belgian composer Serge Minnen, she turns to composing music inspired by medieval modal music and non european scales, blended with contemporary and dissonant influences. Her work focuses on the expression of human feelings, emphasising meaning , melody and form; It is often inspired by important sacred and poetic texts drawn from western tradition which are used in their original language, each idiom conveying a specific colour. In1996, " Mi Amado"; a selection of vocal and sacred pieces is recorded with the Ensemble Hé, for belgian record label Mogno.
In 1999, together with flutist Pierre Coulon, she wrote the stage music for « Etty Hillesum and Rilke » These compositions together with vocal and instrumental pieces are released on a second CD by Mognomusic under the title« Orbis Mysticus ». The record includes a composition for sarod, flutes and voices, performed by Asad QIZILBASH.
Since 2000 Solange Labbé has followed the teaching of Deleuze in Brussels. In 2002 & 2005, she wrote and improvised muisic around performances by artist Angel VERGARA, notably in collaboration with electro acoustician Stephan DUNKELMAN. Since 2000 She has collaborated with french choreographer Laurence Chevalier. In 2004 she wrote the stage music for a musical play over « Marie.Magdeleine..." In 2005 & 2006 she composed works for organ ,cello and choir, and a piano trio "El Alma Ausente" dedicated to the louise Farenc ensemble. In 2006 she was commissioned by brussels cathedral to write a quasi- oratorio : « Ruth :Va vers toi même » which was performed with a choreography by L Chevalier and a set design By Patricia Kinard.
Her work has been performed in Holland (Utrecht festival), France and Italy,Portugal, Germany… Her music has had numerous radio broadcasts in Belgium and abroad. Improvisation remains a genre in which she performs with musicians from a wide range of musical cultures.(jazz with Véronique Bizet, world, slam.....). With keybord player Fred Wilbo she founded "FORWARDLAB", a duo that improvises and slams around original texts in various languages and which lately performed in a set designed by artist Sacha Drudkoy.
