Peter Hertmans 4tet
This quartet started out beginning 2006 as Peter wanted to play
with saxophonist Daniel Stokart. His playing really appealed to
him as Stokart is also influenced by this typical Ecm-ish sound.
Theo de Jong is a musician with a long experience and maturity.
And a young cat on the drums to complete the Quartet: Lionel Beuvens.
He has a very ‘harmonic’ and ‘melodic’ way
of playing the drums. Interaction is the most important thing for
this band and everything is based on the desire of real communication,
also with the audience.
Peter Hertmans has a typical way of composing: as his roots lay
in the piano, his approach may be a little more ‘pianistic’
than other guitarplayers. Peter discovered J.S. Bach’s music
at the age of 10 during a 10 year long study of classical piano.
This marked his musical feeling for the rest of his life. Voice-leading,
inner voices in the settings and movements with several possible
solutions are ways that Peter is checking out at this moment. This
Quartet really suits Peter very well and therefore the enthousiasm
of the band is an important factor that one notices right away.
