TAB
The Tab is a trio composed by Alex Beaurain on the acoustic guitar, Frederic Becker on the saxophone and on the bansuri and Frederic Malempre on percussion. Jazz influenced, all compositions are very original. Simple, acoustic and colorful, the music originates mainly from a work of writing and arrangement. Highly impregnated by histories and images, it transports the listeners to a "thousand colors - trip".
It is an original project for its compositions being all personal and also for its constitution (percussion, saxophone and guitars). It is a new approach of the Jazz trio .
Wishing to take their listeners on an imaginary trip, the choice of percussions seemed evident. Frederic Malempre proposes a very complete set ( cajon, tapan, Tom, Udu, cymbals, gongs ). A real complement of timbres is attained with Frederic Becker playing soprano and tenor saxophone as well as two bansuris and Alex Beauarin playing his two guitars tuned differently, all resulting in an extremely rich sound set.
The research around the arrangements, sonority, space, and balance is complex, but it is this complexity that gives so much interest to this music. The important writing work makes the musicians play a very important role within a completely acoustic repertoire where improvisation and melody interlace. The whole program and the pieces are real histories where situation reversals take place and where the dynamics are very important .
Having been created two years ago the trio has had the occasion to play in about fifty concerts at clubs, festivals and cultural centers (Jazz Jette June, Brussels Jazz Marathon, Sounds, CC Elzenhof, N’8 Jazz Mazy, ...).
